Inflammation of the tonsil glands

Sore throat is a disease that frequently occur in communities throughout the year without knowing the season, whether it be dry or wet. This disease can attack from children to adults. Actually, the most frequent cause is inflammation of the thyroid gland which is located in the oral cavity.

The tonsils are located in the back cavity of the mouth or on both sides of the throat and function as part of the immune system. There are many causes of inflammation of the thyroid gland is often called tonsillitis, from germs (viruses & bacteria), allergies, cigarette smoke, to air pollution.

The main symptom of tonsillitis is discomfort in the throat, painful swallowing, sometimes accompanied by fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, or swelling in the neck area above / lower jaw. If the mouth is opened, sometimes visible white patches on the tonsils are swollen red.

Treatment depends on the cause of tonsillitis. Not all swollen tonsils must be removed through surgery. Appointment of the tonsils through the surgery is only needed if that is especially severe tonsillitis or swollen tonsils are too large, making it hard to breathe and swallow.

Tonsillitis often can shrink by itself so it does not require special treatment. For those who have a fever could use a cold relief medication or drugs non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). Your doctor can recommend specific laboratory tests such as lear throat or blood tests to determine the cause of tonsillitis. If doctors suspect tonsillitis caused by bacterial infection, your doctor may recommend the use of antibiotic drugs.

To relieve pain from sore throat, including the effect of tonsillitis, the following things can be done:

  • Gargling with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt mixed with a glass of warm water)
  • Suck on lozenges or chewing ice
  • Lots of drinking
  • Using a humidifier (humidifier)
