Sony Corp. plans to invest the funds of 100 billion yen, equivalent to Rp 11 trillion in 2011. The money will be focused on doubling the production capacity for the image sensor. Electronics company based in Japan is to achieve the smartphone market.
Cyber-shot camera maker also plans to buy back from the chip manufacturer Toshiba Corp. Factory will produce chips used in PlayStation 3 game console. Sony wants to add equipment to existing plant in Nagasaki, western Japan to make high-quality image sensor.
This expansion, following a business plan in September, management stated earlier. Sony will spend as much as 40 billion yen to increase production of CMOS chips produced in Kumamoto. Largest exporter of electrical goods in Japan is eager to attract 30 percent market share of users of image sensors in camera phones.
